Biery Named EVP/Recorded Music @ BMG

• It’s official — BMG has named veteran promotion and digital marketing pro Tom “Grover” Biery as EVP/Recorded Music. The L.A.-based Biery (left) transitions from Concord Music Group, where since Sept. 2016 he had served as SVP, Streaming Marketing, overseeing the global digital and streaming strategy for all Concord labels, catalog and artists, while managing relationships at Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Pandora, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer, SoundCloud, etc.

In his new role, Biery will lead BMG’s Los Angeles and New York recorded music teams, working alongside BBR Music Group, S-Curve Records and Rise Records to further build the company’s scale in recordings. He will report to Zach Katz, President Repertoire & Marketing, BMG U.S., who remarked, “Grover is a heavy hitter with a wealth of experience navigating the new music business in both streaming and value-added physical formats. We look to him to help guide our Los Angeles and New York teams to new heights as we pursue our strategy of giving proven talent the attention it deserves while also seeking breakout successes.”

Biery is probably best known for his two decades with Warner Bros. Records, where he started as a local promotion rep back in 1990. He quickly rose through the ranks to become SVP of Promotion in 1998 and EVP/GM in 2005. In 2011, Biery joined music management firm The Collective and became a founding partner of Collective Sounds, the firm’s in-house record label. In 2014 Biery established akaGROVER, LLC, a management, marketing and consulting company that advised artists, execs and various music companies. Biery can be congratulated at Tom.Biery@BMG.com.

• Biery’s appointment comes on the heels of BMG recently scoring four simultaneous Top 10 chart hits in the U.S., its highest tally in a single week since entering the record business four years ago. BMG’s newest chart entry, Kid Rock‘s Sweet Southern Sugar, debuts at No. 1 Independent Albums and Rock Albums, No. 4 Country Albums, No. 5 Album Sales and Digital Albums, and No. 8 on the Billboard 200. Upcoming releases from BMG include Morrissey‘s Low In High School (BMG), Andy Grammer‘s The Good Parts (S-Curve), Scarface Deeply Rooted: The Lost Files (BMG), Black Rebel Motorcycle Club‘s Wrong Creatures (BMG) and Of Mice & Men‘s Defy (Rise), alongside highly anticipated new albums from A Perfect Circle, Avril Lavigne and Jason Aldean.
