New Jimmy Buffett Songs!

• Canada-based Stingray proudly announces that Classic Hits CHTN (Ocean 100)/Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, has been asked to give the world its first taste of two new songs by the late Jimmy Buffett — “Johnny’s Rhum” and “Portugal or PEI” will debut Wednesday, Oct. 25 between 8-9am Atlantic Time.

Both songs were co-written with Jimmy’s friend and collaborator, PEI singer-songwriter Lennie Gallant, and will appear on Buffett’s forthcoming posthumous album Equal Strain On All Parts, which will released on Nov. 3 on Mailboat Records/Sun Records. Gallant will join the Ocean 100 morning team of Darcy Campbell, Jill Chandler, and Scott Chapman this morning to tell the stories behind the songs, share Buffett’s passion for PEI, and debut these two beautiful songs.

“We knew that Jimmy loved Atlantic Canada and PEI,” said Steve Jones, Stingray Radio’s SVP of Brands & Content. “He reached out to us last summer to visit PEI and share these songs in person, but sadly, he left us too soon. We are honoured to share how much these songs and this place meant to him.”

The lyrics of “Portugal or PEI” will particularly resonate with Prince Edward Islanders, with its mentions of local landmarks Malpeque Bay and Cavendish, as well as the traditional Mi’kmaq language of the Indigenous people of PEI. The song also references the historical link between Portugal and PEI, created by hundreds of years of Portuguese fishermen frequenting the Gulf of St. Lawrence. As a treat to Jimmy’s longtime fans, the song also includes call-backs to earlier Buffett hits like “Volcano” and “Come Monday.”

Stream it all live Wednesday morning at ocean100.com, the Radioplayer Canada app, iHeartRadio, or Stingray Music app. Jones added, “As a Parrothead, this makes my heart very happy.”
