Remembering Tom Starr

UPDATED: As if 2021 couldn’t be off to a more tragic start… today we were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of promotion veteran Tom Starr after a two-year battle with cancer. He was only 56 years old.

Starr spent the past six years with Warner Music Nashville, where he most recently served as Director of Southeast Radio & Streaming Promotion for WMN’s WAR team. His 30-year multi-format promotional career includes prior stops at EMI Special Ops, Atlantic, Jive, Interscope, MCA, Chrysalis, Elektra, In2une Music and SBK Records.

Starr was initially diagnosed with Stage 2 Follicular Lymphoma in early 2019, and after undergoing an intensive round of treatment, he recovered sufficiently enough to return to work. Unfortunately, Starr’s cancer returned last July, and he took a leave of absence to undergo chemotherapy.

Late Tuesday, Warner Music Nashville released a statement that reads, “Today we mourn the loss of our beloved friend and teammate Tom Starr, who passed away last night. We are devastated by this news, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. We will share further details as they become available while Warner Music Nashville and the country music community grieve together.”

Tom leaves behind his wife, Michelle, daughter, Sophia, and son, Devin. As you read this, Tom’s many friends and colleagues are leaving messages on his Facebook page.
