Rick Sackheim’s Epic Adventure

• In a strategic move to further strengthen the senior management team of Epic Records, Rick Sackheim has been appointed Executive Vice President, Epic Records. Sackheim is based at the label’s base in Culver City, CA and he reports directly to Epic Records President Sylvia Rhone, who commented, “I’ve always admired Rick’s work. He’s the consummate label executive and music mind. His breadth of knowledge encompasses not only promotion, but also an understanding of what makes the business tick. He’s proven himself to be a visionary time and time again. He’s an amazing addition to the senior executive team and will undoubtedly foster the evolution and future growth of Epic Records.”

Sackheim joins Epic after a distinguished 12-year run at Def Jam Recordings, most recently as Executive Vice President, Promotion. He joined the former Island Def Jam Music Group in 2005 as Senior Vice President, Promotion, a position he held until the separation of IDJ in 2014, when he joined Def Jam. Commenting on his new Epic opportunity, Sackheim said, “It’s a true honor to work for the legendary Sylvia Rhone. Epic Records has rich history of amazing artists and has become a real home for music within the Sony family. I look forward in working with Sylvia to continue driving our music, artistry and label to the next level! I want to thank Sylvia and Rob Stringer for their belief in me and allowing me to help guide this amazing roster of music and executive talent.”

Sackheim began his music industry career after college in 1991, with a four-year stint doing National Promotion for Scotti Brothers Records, followed by a year on the National Promotion staff of Private Music. He later worked at 911 Entertainment and Restless Records as VP of Promotion. With his arrival at Arista Records in 2001, as Sr. Director — and later — VP of Rhythm/Crossover Promotion, Sackheim commenced a 17-year period of cross-country commuting between Los Angeles and New York. In 2004, Sackheim was named VP of Rhythm/Crossover Promotion for Jive Records, and he joined IDJ the following year.
