Albom Radiothon Tops $2 Million

Mitch Albom has done it again — at the end of a 15-hour broadcast on Cumulus News-Talk 760 WJR/Detroit, Albom’s 12th annual S.A.Y. Detroit Radiothon raised an amazing $2,064,269 million!

Albom, longtime WJR afternoon talent and founder of nonprofit S.A.Y. Detroit broadcast live on Dec. 7 rom the Somerset Collection in Troy, MI, where a parade of community leaders and celebrities dropped in to visit broadcast and help raise donations. Notable guests included CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Motown legend Smokey Robinson, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, Michigan native Tim Allen, actor Hugh Jackman, and comedian George Lopez, to name just a few.

Funds raised during the Radiothon work to support Albom’s S.A.Y. Detroit, a collection of programs that help area residents with healthcare and housing. These include the S.A.Y Detroit Family Health Clinic, Better Together, MI-Cycle, Working Homes/Working Families, and the Hole In The Roof Foundation. [Special thanks to Michigan’s own Art Vuolo Jr.]
