Fans Fuel iHeartRadio Music Awards
The 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards rocked the “Fabulous Forum” on Sunday night, as the 4th annual fan-powered show, hosted by Ryan Seacrest and televised on TBS, TNT and truTV paid tribute to some of the biggest names in the music industry. Drake won seven awards, including Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, R&B Song of the Year, Hip-Hop Album of the Year, Hip-Hop Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Most Thumbed Up Artist of the Year and Most Thumbed Up Song of the Year. Columbia’s Grammy-winning duo The Chainsmokers pulled off five wins, including Best New Artist, Best New Pop Artist, Dance Album o f the Year, Dance Artist of the Year and Dance Song of the Year (for “Closer” feat. Halsey).
Katy Perry opened the festivities with her new single, “Chained To The Rhythm,” featuring Skip Marley, followed by performances from Noah Cyrus featuring Labrinth, Big Sean, Ed Sheeran (who flew in from Germany to perform “Shape Of You” and “Castle On The Hill”), Shawn Mendes and Thomas Rhett (who cleverly recreated the look of the music video for his hit, “Star Of The Show” on the floor of the Forum), plus the first U.S. television performance of “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Bruno Mars closed the show with a medley of “Treasure” and his new single, “That’s What I Like,” and accepted his well deserved awards as the 2017 iHeartRadio Innovator.
Other major highlights: Justin Timberlake‘s nationally televised shout-out to RCA’s Joe Riccitelli during his Song Of The year acceptance speech for “Can’t Stop The Feeling,” Republic Records’ trophy for Label of The Year and Ryan Seacrest’s nice moment with several of his morning peers,
The Breakfast Club‘s DJ Envy and Angela Yee, Big Boy and Elvis Duran. Congrats to the entire iHeartMedia family, especially John Sykes and Tom Poleman on yet another amazing show.
