Greg “Capitol” Hill-Man?
Longtime WAAF/Boston morning personality Greg Hill is exploring a run for Congress. No, seriously. According to the actual Boston Herald, Hill, a native of Stow, MA and the host of WAAF’s Hill-Man Morning Show since 1989, has been in “serious” discussions about a potential campaign to fill the open seat of Republican Representative Niki Tsongas. “Greg is exploring all of his options, including running for the open congressional seat,” said attorney Lawrence Army Jr., who is serving as Hill’s spokesman.
Yesterday RAMP spoke with Hill, who, still in morning show mode, explained why a political career might interest him, joking, “I truly wasn’t interested until I found out Congress gets more vacation days than we do in radio.” On a slightly more serious note, Hill remarked, “I have one of the greatest radio jobs in the country and I have loved it for 28 years so it’s not something that I would be easily able to give up. Although, I would enjoy being able to filibuster without worrying about PPM methodology and getting into the break in time…”
In a staff memo, WAAF PD Ron Valeri wrote, “Whatever Greg’s decision ultimately is, he will remain committed to WAAF and we’ll find a way together to keep our winning morning show intact.” For his part, Valeri feels Hill is fairly earnest about pursuing this political path, as he tells RAMP, “Greg hasn’t made any decision yet, other than he’s promised me a cushy, high-paid appointment in his administration if he does run. After all, I grew up in the district he’d be representing… That, and I also have certain pictures and stories up my sleeve!”
OK, in a moment of relative seriousness, Hill told us, “Radio has afforded me countless opportunities to help people. It’s the heart and soul of our industry, and really the icing on the cake when it comes to what we get to do every day. This prospect intrigues me in that way because it would given me an even bigger opportunity to help.”
