Bay Area Programming Hijinks
• Entercom has dropped the Throwback format on KRBQ (Q102.1)/San Francisco and has relaunched the station as a Rhythmic Oldies outlet. “The Bay’s Old School” will provide the Bay Area listeners with what is described as “expertly curated gold-based Rhythmic Classic Hits, including mass appeal titles from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.”
“Q102 has already built a great audience and they have been telling us to play more of the familiar, rhythmic hits,” said Greg Nemitz, SVP/Market Manager, Entercom San Francisco. “With the relaunch of The NEW Q102.1, a Bay Area station is finally playing more of the classics we all know and love.” The station will announce further programming/personnel updates in the coming weeks.
• Meanwhile, down in the South Bay… Bonneville Classic Rock KUFX (98.5 KFOX (98.5)/San Jose welcomes the Rolling Stones to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara this Sunday, August 18.
To help get you in the proper frame of mind, the station has temporarily rebranded as “98.5 K-STONES, The South Bay’s Rolling Stones Station” and is giving away pair of Stones tickets daily at 8am, 9am and 3pm.
And on Sunday, the day of the big show, 98.5 K-STONES will play 12 hours of Stones classics from noon-midnight and the staff will be tailgating at the Hilton Santa Clara from 4-7pm.
