Buffalo’s ‘Patriot’ Stretches Its Legs

• Buddy Shula’s Radio One Buffalo, LLC announced that his recently closed acquisition from Cumulus Media — 5,000-watt 1270 WUSW-AM (formerly WHLD), now Conservative Talk 1270 The Patriot, will soon be enhanced with the addition of two metro FM translators: 94.9 (W235BC/Bowmansville, NY) and 93.3 (W227BW/Cheektowaga, NY), purchased from Calvary Chapel of the Finger Lakes and pending FCC approval.

“This is a total game-changer,” Shula said. “Pairing these two powerful metro FM translators with WUSW-AM will give nearly complete market coverage for ‘The Patriot’ on the FM band. We hope to have these FMs approved and running by January 2026.”

Radio One Buffalo already owns successful Oldies outlet 1230 The BIG WECK, which is attached to three full metro FM translators at 102.9, 100.5 and 100.1.

“The FM translators have helped The BIG WECK become a dominate leader in Buffalo, and I believe they are going to help propel WUSW-AM to amazing new heights,” said Shula. “As we do now with WECK, WUSW will beat the pants out of many of the Buffalo area 50,000-watt stations showing that all it takes is a great product and lots of hard work and passion to get the job done.”

Shula added, “Consulting Technical Engineer Mark Humphries, Chief Local Engineer Dennis Majewicz, and FCC attorney Steve Lovelady was the team that helped make this happen. Without these professionals by my side, I would have never been able to do this alone.”
