Cumulus, Madden Renew Vows
Cumulus Media has inked a contract extension with Derek Madden to remain at the PD controls of Active Rock KXXR (93X)/Minneapolis. He will also retain his duties as Corporate Programmer, Rock & Alternative for Cumulus. In making the official announcement, Twin Cities’ VP/Market Manager Shelly Wilkes said, “Derek is a great Rock PD and a terrific guy to work with. Looking forward to years of continued success with Derek at the helm of 93X.” Next up was Scott Jameson, Cumulus VP of Classic Rock and OM of KQRS, KXXR and WGVX, who added, “Derek has done a terrific job with KXXR, building on its heritage as one of America’s great rock stations. 93X has energy, attitude and big ratings. We’re lucky to have someone of Derek’s caliber piloting 93X.”
Madden joined 93X in March of 2015 after a two-year stint at the helm of KLOS/Los Angeles. His earlier programming stops include Cumulus Classic Rock KSAN (107.7 The Bone)/San Francisco and the late KSJO/San Jose. He was also MD at CBS Hot AC KLLC (Alice @ 97.3)/San Francisco and spent nearly a decade on the air at CBS Alternative KITS (Live 105). Madden said, “It’s been a true joy to work at 93X. The station has an incredible history, and a team in place that rivals any in Rock. We’ve had a pretty good run the last couple of years, and I’m really excited to see what we can accomplish in the years to come. Thanks to Shelly Wilkes, Scott Jameson, Troy Hanson, Dave Milner, Mike McVay and Glenn Goldstein for helping with this deal and giving me an opportunity to do what I love.”
