End Of The Sandbloom Era At KROQ
RAMP has confirmed that, after a quarter-century in service to The World Famous KROQ/Los Angeles, Operations Manager Gene Sandbloom is leaving the station this Friday and will be moving to his recently acquired home in France.
In a staff memo obtained by RAMP, CBS Radio SVP of Programming Kevin Weatherly said, “Gene’s dedication, passion and tremendous work ethic will be sorely missed. He first came to KROQ as Music Director in the fall of 1992. He quickly rose to the position of Operations Manager and took on whatever challenge was thrown his way. He has made so many important contributions to the success of KROQ throughout the years and has always done it with a first-class attitude and approach. He is highly respected in the industry and we have benefitted greatly from many of his key relationships.”
Weatherly continued, “Gene has taken on so many roles and is truly the ‘Jack of all trades!’ In addition to his KROQ responsibilities, he has been scheduling the music on [Adult Hits KCBS-FM] Jack-FM for the last several years and has been a key to the success of that station. He took over producing Openline for the cluster a couple of years ago, was the ‘go-to’ guy for writing all of the Marconi and Crystal Awards submissions for KROQ, worked closely with sales and promotions to ensure we were over-delivering on client commitments, and has an been important voice in all strategic programming decisions during his time at KROQ.”
In conclusion, Weatherly said, “Needless to say, Gene has been a tremendous partner and friend. Please join me in thanking him for all his years of service, loyalty and devotion to KROQ. We wish him much success and happiness as he begins this new chapter.” We understand that Sandbloom’s current duties will be absorbed internally.
