Hampton Roads A Safe Harbor For Yacht Rock

• Max Media’s WTWV (92.9 The Wave)/Norfolk is officially “dropping anchor in smoother waters” as it transitions from Hot AC to Classic Hits and rebrands as “Yacht Rock for Coastal Virginia,” featuring those feel-good classics from the ’70s and 80s from Michael McDonald, The Doobie Brothers, Toto, Kenny Loggins, Steely Dan, Christopher Cross… you get the idea.

Operations Manager Jay West remarked, “These songs have the ability to bridge generations. There’s a real thirst for this music from a smoother, simpler era. The ’70s & ’80s are back in style.”

As the release states, “Wave listeners can expect a carefully charted playlist of legendary Yacht Rock hits, many of which are not heard on radio today, all guided by familiar longtime local personalities at the helm. Along the way, they’ll enjoy coastal-inspired contests, events, and giveaways, all delivered with a smooth, stress-free listening experience and no turbulence — guaranteed.”

“The reimaging of 92.9 The Wave as Coastal Virginia’s Yacht Rock station is a natural fit,” said Keith Barton, VP/GM of Max Media of Coastal Virginia. “This format delivers feel-good music that listeners know and love, and we’re excited to introduce a station that reflects the relaxed coastal lifestyle of our community.”
