Happy Half-Century, Chick McGee!

• Today, October 12, 2026, is a landmark day for Chick McGee, longtime co-host and “Sports Director” of the Westwood One-syndicated The BOB & TOM Show, who is celebrating his 50th year in broadcasting!

Known for his quick wit, unmistakable voice and spirited exchanges with his fellow cast members on The BOB & TOM Show, McGee has become a familiar part of listeners’ morning routines. His contributions extend beyond the sports desk to some of the show’s best-known comedy bits, including “Mr. Obvious.”

Reflecting on this major career milestone, McGee said, “I feel kind of silly saying this but it’s true… it really does not seem possible. Fifty years on the radio. I’m reminded of that quote, ‘Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.’ However, burnout is so real and it must be handled. Thank goodness, I work with the best at keeping everything, and everyone, fresh. Growing up I had no idea whatsoever what I was going to do as an adult. Then I discovered radio. It’s not an overstatement to say that it saved me. It hit me all at once, and I remembered this: ‘The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.’ This is what I was born to do.”
