Kaplan Official As SVP/PD of ALT92.3/NYC
• At last… today Mike Kaplan officially embarks on his long awaited new position as Senior Vice President of Programming and Program Director of Entercom Alternative WBMP (ALT 92.3)/New York. Back in January we initially reported Kaplan was leaving as PD of iHeartMedia Alternative KYSR (ALT 98.7)/Los Angeles after nearly four years for the opportunity to return to Entercom to program the company’s ALT 92.3, which launched last November. As a condition of this new opportunity, Kaplan had to wait until the end of his iHeartMedia contract. “I’m coming home — both personally and professionally,” Kaplan said. “I’m so happy to be working again with David Field, Pat Paxton, Weezie Kramer and Susan Larkin as their leadership and scale in the Alternative world has jumped Entercom to the top.”
Already well versed in the Entercom systems, Kaplan previously programmed Alternative KNDD (107.7 The End) and Classic Hits KMTT (103.7 The Mountain)/Seattle. Prior to his transfer to Seattle in the summer of 2008, he programmed Top 40 sister WEZB (B97) and WKBU (The Bayou)/New Orleans and KRBZ (96-5 The Buzz)/Kansas City. Earlier in his career Kaplan served as APD of Top 40 WPST/Trenton, and later programmed Hot AC WJLK and Top 40 WBBO/Monmouth-Ocean, NJ.
• And there’s more — Christine Malovetz joins ALT 92.3 as midday host, starting today. Malovetz (left) was most recently APD/midday personality at Top 40 KNOU (NOW 96.3)/St. Louis. Prior stops include WKQX (Q101)/Chicago, the late WPLY (Y100)/Philadelphia and WBTZ (99.9 The Buzz)/Burlington, VT, where she was known as “Electra.” Malovetz said, “I’m thrilled and honored to be part of the talented team bringing alternative music back to the New York airwaves. It’s a dream come true to return to the east coast and to the format I grew up loving.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Mike and Christine to ALT 92.3 and are looking forward to having their talent and drive propel the brand to new heights in New York,” said Susan Larkin, Regional President and Market Manager, Entercom. “As we continue to engage with the passionate alternative music community in the city, we look forward to building out a top-notch team.”
