Kent Jones Announces His Retirement

• Veteran programmer and air personality Kent Jones has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the year, wrapping up an impressive 49-year broadcasting journey.

Jones currently works for Stephens Media Group handling multiple roles, including Operations Manager for the company’s Spokane, WA group and morning host on Classic Hits KEYF (Key 101)/Spokane, and Soft Oldies 100.9 KTSO/Tulsa.

A native of Columbus, OH, Jones’ early passion for radio led him to study broadcast production at Ohio University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. He went on to work at WOMI/Owensboro, KY, WTVN/Columbus, and WNDE/Indianapolis; however, his 31-year tenure as Program Director and morning host at Tyler Media Classic Hits KOMA/Oklahoma City marked a significant career milestone — Jones launched the Oldies format on the station in 1988, and, over the years, successfully transitioned it to Classic Hits while maintaining Top 5 ratings. He also co-hosted the top-rated Lisa and Kent morning show until January 2020, joining joined Stephens Media Group Spokane in July 2020.

In 2011, Kent launched the first of his two syndicated shows, Totally Awesome ’80s and The ’80s Vault. He later co-founded Fishnet Syndication which today provides programs to more than 500 stations around the world.

Reflecting on his remarkable career, Jones remarked, “I remember the days I dreamed of being on the radio, and now, after 49 years, I am at the other end of an eventful, fun, and fulfilling journey. I am so thankful to be completing my career on a high note with so many fond memories working with so many great people.”

As Kent looks forward to the next chapter of his life, he will remain active with voiceovers, film acting, and drone photography while spending more quality time with Barbara, his wife of 37 years.
