Matthews Wakes Up Back In Boise

• Cumulus Country KIZN (Kissin’ 92.3)/Boise, ID makes it official and fills its PD vacancy with the hire of format vet Chris Matthews. As we reported a few weeks ago, KIZN had parted ways with PD/morning host Hank Aaron and his wake-up co-hosts Shawnda McNeal and Cory Mikhals. Matthews will now co-host the morning show, and will be joined by Alana Lynn, who moves up from middays to mornings and adds APD/MD stripes.

Matthews most recently programmed iHeartMedia Country KBEB/Sacramento until last November. Before that he was APD/MD and morning co-host on Entercom Country KMLE/Phoenix. The move also marks a return to the Boise market for Matthews, who was previously APD/MD/midday personality for Townsquare Media rival KAWO (WOW Country 104.3) as “Dan Matthews.” He also served as Director of Marketing and Promotions for Cumulus Media Tucson a few years back. The third time is also the charm for Matthews and Lynn, who previously worked together at KAWO and KMLE.

Don Morin, RVP/Market Manager of Cumulus Boise, said, “I couldn’t be more excited to have Chris lead the KIZN team. His energy and desire to win is infectious. I have no doubt that Chris and Alana will dominate mornings in Boise!”

Matthews commented, “I’m honored and thrilled to be taking the reins of a legendary brand in the most beautiful city in the country. I can’t thank Don Morin, Charlie Cookand John Dimickenough for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I’m so excited to be working again with Alana Lynn, who is as brilliant and talented as it gets. As KIZN is set to turn 30, I firmly believe that our best years are still to come!” Matthews can be congratulated at chris.matthews@cumulus.com.
