McCracken Era Ends At WSOC/Charlotte

• After a remarkable 32-year run at Beasley Country WSOC/Charlotte, RAMP has confirmed that APD/MD Rick McCracken has exited.

McCracken (left) broke the news of his departure in the form of an open letter posted to his Facebook page that read, in part, “By this point most all of you have heard that I am no longer with my longtime radio company. As they usually do, the end came suddenly and I never got a chance to say goodbye. I won’t say it now either because that is not the purpose of this post. The first thing I want to do is thank you for your longtime support, and recognize those genuine lasting friendships I’ve been blessed with over more than 30 years at one of the most unique and special radio stations in America. I trust that friendships endure changes in job titles–or even eliminations of those titles. After all, it takes the hearts and souls of real people to affect what we’ve accomplished together. Secondly, I want to assure you that I am avoiding the whirlpool of doubt and confusion by this sudden departure, and am instead exploring any new and exciting opportunities. I walked out the door with the same skills and abilities, drive, conscience and heart — and ears — that served me so well at WSOC. I’m confident that I can put these attributes to work in any number of ways.” Looking ahead, McCracken can be reached at rickmc103@gmail.com.

• Stay tuned for the official announcement, but we expect Mimi Wheeler to be formally introduced as the new MD of WSOC sometime this week (Hurricane Florence permitting). Wheeler is the former MD and Promotions Director at Curtis Media Country WQDR/Raleigh, who joined WSOC in June in the newly created dual position of Digital PD and Associate Producer of the Tanner In The Morning show.
