New Breeze Blows In Jersey
• The midnight oil was burning late into Wednesday evening at the Press Communications’ broadcast complex in scenic Neptune City, NJ as VP of Programming Jeff Rafter and crew put the finishing touches on a format adjustment and rebranding project involving Oldies 1410 WHTG/Monmouth-Ocean, and its companion translator at 100.7 FM.
We were told that the station, which had been “Great Gold,” playing ’50s & ’60s oldies has now contemporized its timeline, and has upshifted to a ’60s/70s pop and Motown-based format, rebranded as “The Breeze” – a brand already familiar in the market, as it had previously been employed successfully from 2003-13 across the hall on Classic Hits simulcast WWZY/WBHX (now 107.1 The Boss). The new station voice is legendary Drake jock Jim Davis.
Jeff Rafter explained the sound reasoning behind the rebrand, telling RAMP, “20 years ago Press created this brand and had great success with it. I know this because I was across the street! I’m thrilled to bring the Breeze back to Monmouth County.”
