Class Reunion At WPLJ

UPDATED: As WPLJ/New York prepares for its final sign-off Friday at 7pm, closing the book on a 48-year history, the station’s hallowed hallways are absolutely packed with legends past and present as many of the people who helped make this station iconic came by — some from great distances — to hug it out, share some memories and pay their respects.

Among the many who passed through the lobby this morning are these three familiar faces — (l-r): Mitch Dolan, former longtime General Manager of WPLJ; Tom Cuddy, now PD of iHeartMedia News-Talk 710 WOR/New York, who notably served as VP of Programming of WPLJ from 1990 until 2009, and Louie Diaz, now Vice President of Contemporary Music for Cumulus Media, OM of Cumulus Atlanta and PD of WWWQ (Q99.7). A native of Queens, NY, Diaz got his radio start at WPLJ at the age of 16 as Scott Shannon‘s Programming Assistant, ultimately rising to APD.

Here’s another in-studio shot, (l-r): Harry Kapsalis, Louie Diaz, Scott Shannon, Brad Blanks, Joe Nolan, Patty Steele, PD Dave LaBrozzi, Mike Allan and Tom Cuddy.

The on-air cavalcade of PLJ legends continues all day today. Listen live at plj.com.
