oWOW/Cleveland Rocks!

This is pretty cool — Cleveland radio icon John Gorman, famous as one of the architects of the legendary “Buzzard” — WMMS, is now Chief Content Officer for WOW Media, LLC, which in 2014 launched online radio station oWOW Cleveland. We really enjoyed an in-depth piece about oWOW in the hometown Cleveland Plain Dealer. As Gorman told RAMP, “It’s a bit unusual in this day and age for a newspaper and its website to devote a lengthy article on a radio station. But we were surprised and honored when the Plain Dealer approached us to do a story on our online radio station, now in its third year. We agreed to have their writer be embedded and having full access to the station for a few weeks.” We urge you to take the time to settle in and enjoy the end result, which is posted online.

Gorman added, “Although we do have a few labels, trade papers and Live Nation ignoring oWOW, there are others who clearly recognize that the online platform provides us an advantage over the cookie-cutter chain stations in the market. It reminds me of the earlier days of FM competing against AM for ad dollars. Having less overhead allows us to run fewer spots per hour and place them in a unique position.”
