Remembering Joel Folger
• We join the rest of the industry in mourning the passing of veteran major market programmer and consultant Joel Folger, who died on Thursday, Feb. 17 after suffering was doctors believed was a massive heart attack. Folger was 65 and had been in recovery from a stroke a few years back.
Folger, a 2021 inductee into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame (and a lifelong, diehard Minnesota Vikings fan) is probably best known for his Dallas programming success at KEGL and KDGE. His lengthy career began at the mighty KTRF in his hometown of Thief River Falls, MN, and progressed into increasingly larger on-air stints at KCLD/St. Cloud, MN, KQRS/Minneapolis and KBPI/Denver. His programming resume also includes KJYO (KJ103)/Oklahoma City and KDWB/Minneapolis. Folger’s day-to-day programming journey was followed by an equally successful career as a consultant and mentor.
Folger is survived by his wife, Becky, and their three children, Kayla, Mandi and Brayden.
A Celebration of Joel’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 5 from 10am-1pm at 5250 William D Tate Ave., Colleyville, TX 76034. Details are posted on Joel’s Facebook page, along with some heartfelt thoughts from his many longtime friends and industry colleagues. [Photo from Facebook]
