‘Rhythm Lab Radio’ Expands Outward

• Non-comm Triple A WXPN/Philadelphia this week added Rhythm Lab Radio to its on-air schedule, Wednesdays from 8-10pm ET. Rhythm Lab Radio is produced by Triple A WYMS (88Nine Radio Milwaukee) and is hosted by Tarik Moody.

“We are beyond excited to be adding Rhythm Lab Radio, as we’ve been fans of the show and it’s going to make a great addition to our lineup,” said Bruce Warren, WXPN Asst. GM for Programming. “From jazz and hip-hop to soul music and beyond, Tarik’s music knowledge and the way he presents the music is quite simply spectacular. XPN listeners and members are in for a treat, and this show speaks to XPN’s long-term mission of musical discovery.”

Moody (left) started Rhythm Lab Radio in 2005 on Minnesota Public Radio. The show moved to Milwaukee two years later when 88Nine Radio Milwaukee launched. The weekly, two-hour show redefines the Urban sound with a mix of jazz, electronic, hip-hop and soul music, with each episode introducing listeners to new artists that are testing boundaries and making music that doesn’t fit neatly into a single box. Commenting on the show’s expansion into Philadelphia, Moody said, “This is especially exciting because WXPN is a leader in music discovery in the country, and Philadelphia is home to some of our favorite artists that we have featured over the past 15 years.”

WXPN, which produces the NPR-syndicated World Cafe®, now becomes the third outside affiliate to carry Rhythm Lab Radio, joining Vocalo 91.1 at WBEZ/Chicago and WHRV 89.5/Norfolk, VA. We are told that 91.5 WUNC/Chapel Hill, NC will also begin carrying the show soon. Rhythm Lab Radio is available for stations to carry in its full two-hour format or in an abbreviated one-hour version.
