Sanchez Joins Nashville Public Radio As COO

• Major market news-talk executive Rob Sanchez has joined Nashville Public Radio as the organization’s first Chief Operating Officer.

Sanchez most recently served as VP of News, Talk & Sports for iHeartMedia Boston and PD of WBZ NewsRadio 1030. In his new role Sanchez will work closely with Nashville Public Radio President & CEO Steve Swenson in leading content, financial and technical day-to-day operations. “Rob brings a wealth of experience and expertise to help us as we continue our rapid growth to expand our public service to Nashville and Middle Tennessee,” said Swenson. “His extensive background in both news and music programming is unique in our industry and will help us as we expand both 90.3 WPLN News and [Triple A] 91.1 WNXP, ‘Nashville’s Music Experience.'”

Sanchez spent nearly two decades in various roles with CBS Radio in New York and Washington, DC, dating back to 2000 when he joined WCBS NewsRadio 880/New York as News Operations Manager, subsequently rising to Managing Editor and Asst. News Director. During his time in DC, Sanchez created and launched an all-news radio station, and oversaw Spanish-language music station, WLZL (El Zol 107.9). He also created a digital publishing and content enterprise focused on veteran-centric news and resources.

In his new COO role, Sanchez will have as direct reports WPLN’s Executive Editor (TBA), WNXP Program Director Jason Moon Wilkins, VP of Technology & Finance Carl Pedersen, and Director of Finance Michael Robertson, along with oversight of all internal organization operations.

“I’m grateful to Steve Swenson and the Board of Directors for entrusting me to help lead WPLN, WNXP, the NashVillager, and the many digital and audio services Nashville Public Radio offers,” said Sanchez. “I’m invigorated to join an organization that functions at such a high level of public service and community engagement.”
