Sanders Named PD, WZZK/Birmingham

• SummitMedia welcomes Michael Sanders (McClellan) as the new PD of heritage Country WZZK/Birmingham, AL. The position has been vacant since last October’s departure of Tom Hanrahan, who had held the dual roles of WZZK PD and corporate Vice President of Country Programming.

Sanders brings with him 30 years of experience, both on-and off-air, on terrestrial and digital stations. He spent the past five years with Midwest Communications’ WJXA (Mix 92.9)/Nashville as an on-air personality and talent coach. Prior to that, Sanders programmed Saga’s WVVR, WRND & WQEZ/Clarksville, TN, preceded by stops in Jacksonville, Charlotte, and Denver.

“During this time of growth, it’s great to have Mike join the WZZK team with his expertise in programming and passion for WZZK and Birmingham,” said Randy Chase, SummitMedia EVP of Programming.

Sanders, an ACM and CMA member, commented, “WZZK has always been that beacon of light on the horizon for me, and now I have the privilege of being a part of it. The enthusiasm is tangible, and I can’t wait to dive in.” He added, “It feels like a full-circle radio moment for me, as my radio journey started down the road at the University of Alabama.”
