Beasley Initiates 7% Personnel Cuts

UPDATING WITH NAMES: RAMP has learned that Beasley Media Group is the latest company to initiate wide-ranging budget-related layoffs. Official estimates put the number of employees adversely affected to be around 7% of its total workforce.

When contacted, Beasley management issued this statement that reads: “We are realigning our core business operations to reflect the current economic conditions in order to best serve the needs of our valued audiences, advertisers, and shareholders into the future.”

BOSTON: Jackson Blue departs afternoons on Country 102.5 WKLB. In a social post, Blue said, “I just got released from Country 102.5. I’ll miss all of my amazing listeners… but I’ll be ok.” Blue also shared the news of his termination — his first — in a video posted to social media.

Blue is probably best known for his eight-year stint in nights at iHeartMedia’s WXKS (Kiss 108)/Boston. He was also MD at iHeart Top 40 KHKS/Dallas and APD/mornings at WZFT/Baltimore. Blue joined Beasley in January 2014 to do afternoons at WBQT (Hot 96.9), before crossing the hall to WKLB in March 2017. Blue started his radio career at the mighty WGXL/Lebanon, NH and later worked at WRZE/Cape Cod.

• Jaybeau Jones posted the news of his departure on Facebook: “After a wonderful 10-year run at WROR/Boston, ranking #2 adults, I was part of the 7% and let go,” he said. Jones’ lengthy career has has taken him to New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Hartford and Worcester. He’s also a 2017 inductee into the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame for his 1979-84 stint (as “Johnny Dowd“) at the late, great JB105/Providence.

Jones’ message continued, “I am happy to say I won’t be far away, as you can hear me tonight and every night on SiriusXM’s 70s on 7. Once I have a few Corona’s with [wife] Heidi West, I will be looking for another fun opportunity to complement 70s on 7.” Reach out today at jaybeauj@gmail.com.

FT. MYERS: Tom Calococci has exited as PD of Soft AC WJPT (Sunny 106.3) and ESPN affiliate WBCN-AM/Ft. Myers, FL. Calococci landed in Florida in June 2022, following a stint as PD of Beasley Urban AC KOAS (Jammin’ 105.7)/Las Vegas. Before that he spent four years as the Affiliate Relations & Content Creator for Sheet Happens Prep.

CHARLOTTE: Phil Harris and Melany Myers have exited afternoons on Beasley Adult Hits WKQC (K104.7). The duo had been in the building since 2013, doing mornings for eight years before shifting to afternoons in 2021.

Harris previously spent 12 years in middays at iHeart’s former WLYT (Lite 102.9)/Charlotte. He also made on-air, news, and production stops in Austin and Seattle. Myers’ previous on-air stops included WEND (106.5 The End) and WRFX (99.7 The Fox)/Charlotte, as well as WMFX and WNOK/Columbia, SC. Britney Cherry has exited her role as Executive Producer of the Maney & LauRen morning show on WNKS (KISS 95.1). Cherry had been on the job since January. She earlier spent two years with Audacy Chicago as entertainment correspondent and producer for the syndicated Rick Party Show on WBMX (104.3 JAMS) — a role she currently retains.
