Shepard Downsized At BCA San Diego

RAMP has learned that veteran programmer/consultant Mike Shepard was laid off Tuesday, part of a RIF at Broadcast Company of The Americas (BCA) in San Diego. We hear unconfirmed reports that as many as eight other employees may have also been let go.

The news comes on heels of another unusual development — on Dec. 15, 2018, two of the cluster’s stations — XHPRS (105.7 MAX FM) and XEPE-AM (ESPN 1700) were taken off the air by the transmitter landlord in Mexico, who has taken the stations back and is now doing his own programming.

Shepard joined BCA in May 2011 as the Programming & Operations Manager and was upped to VP of Programming & Operations in October 2015. Prior to BCA, Shep was across the street as VP of Programming & Operations for Jefferson Pilot-owned KSON, KIFM and KBZT/San Diego. He previously held senior management roles for leading industry research and marketing companies including Moyes Research, Pinnacle Media Research, P1 Research and his own international radio consultancy, Shepard Media Research, which Shepard will continue to operate as he begins the search for a new opportunity that best fits his years of experience. Shepard can be reached at 619-994-7583 or shepardradio@gmail.com.
