Shomby Cuts Ribbon, Open For Business

• Programming veteran John Shomby has formally announced the launch of his Nashville-based Radio/Artist Talent and Program Director Mentoring consultant firm. As we recently reported, one of Shomby’s first clients is United Stations, where he has been inked as Talent Relations Consultant to Backstage Country, the new five-hour daily show that features Country music stars as rotating hosts.

As part of his services, Shomby will also be advising a select group of on-air talent and programmers along with his specially developed “Radio 101” detailed course for new Country music artists. Several early clients include new artists from Broken Bow Music Group, Big Loud Records, and Warner Music Nashville. Shomby said, “I will be tailoring my coaching to the individual client and situation, so specific needs get addressed with personalized solutions. It’s NOT a one-size-fits-all.”

During a career that spans more than three decades, Shomby has worked with and mentored high-profile talent and aspiring programmers in multiple formats, including Top 40, Country, Mainstream Rock, Classic Hits, Sports-Talk, and Contemporary Gospel. He has also launched stations in Augusta, Flint, Birmingham, Portland, Dallas, and Norfolk/Virginia Beach. Shomby most recently worked for Cumulus Media Nashville as Director of NASH Programming and PD of WKDF until April. He previously spent 13 years as Director of Programming for Max Media’s five-station cluster in Norfolk/Virginia Beach. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Country Radio Broadcasters since 2005 and has been its Vice President since 2019.
