• Radio One announced two significant promotions from within its programming ranks — the action begins in Columbus, OH, as Operations Manager Theodore “Big Bink” Turner (left) is tapped as the new OM of the company’s five-station Indianapolis cluster — Top 40 WNOW (RadioNOW 100.9), Urban WHHH (Hot 96.3), Classic Hip Hop Boom 102.9/Indianapolis, Urban AC WTLC-FM and Inspirational WTLC-AM (AM 1310 The Light). Concurrently, Bill Black (below, left), Operations Manager of Radio One’s properties in Cleveland and Cincinnati completes the Ohio trifecta by adding Columbus to his programming portfolio — he now oversees Rhythmic WCKX (Power 107.5), Urban AC WXMG (Magic 95.5), Classic Hip Hop WBMO (Boom 106.3) and Urban Gospel WJYD (Joy 107.1).
Commenting on Black’s enhanced responsibilities, Eddie Harrell, RVP of Radio One’s Ohio Region said, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Bill and have found him to be the total package. He’s a creative mind with strong leadership skills, industry knowledge and passion for music, entertainment and community. I’m excited to expand his role to Columbus and now work with him on our powerhouse three-city region.”
In welcoming Big Bink to Indianapolis, RVP Deon Levingston said, “We searched across the country to find the right person for our OM position and I’m happy we found someone in our company with the perfect background and fit to lead our stations to… the next level™. Bink has proven himself in two Radio One markets to be a great programmer and talent. I’m excited about what he’ll do here in Indy!” The Indianapolis OM position opened up at the end of June, when Joshua “J1” Raiford earned a transfer from the PD post at Hot 96.3 and Boom 102.9 to program sister WKYS/Washington, and Kelly Mac resigned as PD of WTLC-FM & AM to become MD/midday personality at Beasley Media Urban AC WBAV (V101.9)/Charlotte.
• Radio One is now seeking midday air talent for both WTLC-FM and WHHH/Indianapolis and a new APD/afternoon personality for WCKX (Power 107.5)/Columbus. The positions are posted in the Urban One Careers section.
