Boston Bruins Ink New Radio Voice
• With the Boston Bruins opening their 2017-18 NHL season tonight at home against the Nashville Predators, the timing seemed perfect for the Bruins’ radio flagship, WBZ-FM (98.5 The Sports Hub)/Boston to announce its new team radio play-by-play voice — say hello to Judd Sirott, who joins analyst Bob Beers tonight — and every night in the booth for every Bruins game.
Sirott (left) comes from another Original Six market — Chicago, where he has served as host and fill-in play-by-play announcer for the Chicago Blackhawks on WGN since 2008. He has also called NHL games nationally for HDNet (now AXS-TV) and the NHL Network. Sirott previously spent 12 seasons doing play-by-play for the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, and six years with the Chicago Cubs broadcast team as a host and play-by-play announcer while at WGN.
“We are very excited to have someone with the exceptional reputation and experience that Judd has, join our team at The Sports Hub and call the Boston Bruins games on the radio,” said Mike Thomas, VP of Programming, CBS Radio Boston & VP of Sports Programming, CBS Radio.
“I didn’t just hit the lottery — I hit the Powerball,” said Sirott. “An Original Six team; a spectacular hockey market; one of the world’s greatest cities; a terrific partner to work with in Bob Beers; and a fabulous station to be a part of. I am incredibly fortunate, privileged and humbled to be the radio voice of the Boston Bruins on 98.5 The Sports Hub.” Sirott fills the large skates of Dave Goucher, who recently left the Bruins after 17 seasons to become the TV play-by-play announcer for the NHL’s newest franchise, the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
