Greener Pastures For ‘Irish Dave’

• In 2014 “Irish Dave” O’Connor moved from Dublin, Ireland to America to pursue his dream of broadcasting in the U.S. Over the last two years Dave and his wife Christine have been living that dream, hosting the morning show together at Artistic Media Partners Top 40 WNDV (U93)/South Bend, IN until recently, when Christine landed a new job as Media Liaison for the South Bend Police Department.

Now comes word that Irish Dave has also found a new calling, and the pull is strong enough that he’s hanging up his headphones — Dave has been named as the Director of Community Engagement for a local non-profit called A Rosie Place for Children. “I had the CEO on my show to discuss their work and instantly fell in love with the service they provide to families with children who are medically fragile,” O’Connor tells RAMP. “I’ve been an ambassador for them for over a year, and when this opportunity came up, it felt like it was a great way to continue using my abilities to positively impact the community. This role excites me so much and knowing that it can literally change lives is the greatest motivation of all.”

Commenting on his decision to leave radio, O’Connor said, “Radio is the most intimate medium and I love the impact it can have on the community, and walking away from something I’ve done since I was 15 is scary. I’m now 36 years old, I got married in October and I feel like this is the right time to start building a more secure future.” We wish Dave and Christine the best in their new careers.
