K92.3 Doin’ The Airshift Shuffle
• Cox Media Group Country WWKA (K92.3)/Orlando keeps it firmly in the family as the station fills several key positions with existing talent — let’s start with Michael “Slater” Wheaton, who now gets to sleep in for a few extra hours as he’s elevated to fill the station’s vacant afternoon shift. Slater succeeds AJ Maguire, who left last month to become morning co-host at iHeartMedia AC KSNE (Sunny 106.5)/Las Vegas.
Slater (left) was previously OM/PD/midday talent at Vox AM/FM Hot AC WEZF (Star 92.9)/Burlington-Plattsburgh, VT, until April 2016, when his wife received a big promotion and transfer to Orlando. He joined K92.3 that same year. Earlier stops include WOTW/Orlando; WHKO/Dayton, OH; WDAY (Y94)/Fargo, ND and KFMW (Rock 108)/Waterloo, IA. “I’m excited for what the future holds for the K92.3 on-air family,” said Slater. “Our listeners deserve the ultimate afternoon experience that is second to none and I won’t stop until that’s what they receive. A HUGE thank you to the entire CMG leadership group seeing me primed for the position. Buckle Up.”
And there’s more — Melissa Quinones (center) has been upped from part-time evening personality to full-time midday host, replacing Slater. “I grew up in Orlando listening to the music and on-air personalities of K92.3,” Quinones said. “Being able to say that I’m now a full-time part of this team is a dream come true. I cannot wait to continue bringing the Country music world to Orlando.”
And finally, the K92.3 7-midnight show will now be tracked by the talented Macie Banks (right), who also co-hosts the morning show on sibling WNGC (Your Georgia Country)/Athens, GA. Banks exclaimed, “I’m so excited to take on this new role with K92.3, and so grateful for this opportunity. Can’t wait to bring the energy to nights in Orlando!”
