It’s Official: Khalid Blowing Up!
First things first: congrats to Khalid, who won the prestigious “Best New Artist” award last night on the MTV VMAs! His victory is hardly shocking, as the prolific 19-year-old artist has been ready to explode for a while — his current album, American Teen (Right Hand Music Group/RCA) is perched at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 — he wrote it while he was a senior in high school in El Paso, TX. Khalid’s voice can be heard on four songs in the Top 20 in U.S. Spotify — his current single, “Location,” (Top 30 at Pop), his next single, “Young Dumb & Broke” (currently moving up the Rhythm chart), Marshmello‘s “Silence,” and Logic‘s “1-800-273-8255” with Alessia Cara.
Last Friday night Khalid performed the first of three sold-out shows at Novo at L.A. Live, and, according to eyewitnesses, the crowd sang along to every word of every song! Afterwards, Khalid greeted a sizeable crowd of industry heavyweights, many of whom know Steve Resnik personally…
