Elder Jumps Into CA Governor’s Race

• On Tuesday, Salem Radio Network-syndicated host Larry Elder announced he was entering the growing field of candidates attempting to unseat California Governor Gavin Newsom in the special Sept. 14 recall election.

As reported by the Associated Press, Elder’s entry into the race immediately reorders a large GOP field that includes former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; businessman John Cox, who was defeated by Newsom in 2018; state Assemblyman Kevin Kiley; former U.S. Rep. Doug Ose, and former Olympian-turned-reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner.

With Elder (left) entering the race, Salem has to replace him on his radio show for the period of time that he is a legal candidate, through the election on September 14. To that end, Salem has tapped Carl Jackson to fill Elder’s timeslot. Jackson (right) already has a show on Salem-owned WORL (AM 950 The Answer)/Orlando and is also a regular substitute host for Salem’s Dennis Prager.

“Carl has a warm and engaging personality on the air, and because he had to fight his way out of hard circumstances, he is able to convince others of his correct lifestyle decisions,” said Phil Boyce, Salem Sr. VP of Spoken Word Formats. Jackson commented, “When I was trying to find my way out of the poor life choices I had made, I read two of Larry’s books. Now it’s such an honor to sit in his chair for a time, during Larry’s run for governor.” If Elder loses, Salem will return him to his regular position in the Salem Lineup, weeknights from 6-9pm ET.
