Do TV Right: Use Radio Vets

This is pretty cool — on Monday, Tegna, which owns 48 television stations in 36 markets with affiliations with NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CW and MyNetworkTV, debuted a new syndicated show, Daily Blast LIVE, which features the talents of eight hosts, four of whom are experienced radio pros!

One of those talented radio vets is Ms. Erica Cobb (second from right), whose extensive radio resume includes B96 & WKSC/Chicago, KALC and KWOF/Denver and KZZO/Sacramento. Also pictured, (l-r): Ebony Steele (Ricky Smiley Show & The Afternoon Rush) Tory Shulman (LA Talk Radio) and stand-up comic Al Jackson (The Bob & Tom Show).

The Denver-based Cobb explained the show’s ambitious concept, telling RAMP, “Daily Blast Live is a television show airing on all Tegna stations. This is the first ‘360-format’ on live TV, meaning we’ll air live on YouTube and Facebook during our 3 1/2 hours of broadcast and go live to every time zone. DBL is also interactive — we’ll take viewer comments and videos and integrate them into the show in real time.” We understand that over 4,000 people auditioned for these eight host spots.

Cobb added, “We’re really excited about this show, especially the radio people. I just felt like this is totally a radio show that they’re airing live in its entirety, breaking the 4th wall. That’s how I approached the audition and it feels very much like home. For me, radio will always be home!” For more details about Daily Blast LIVE, check out this profile in Broadcasting & Cable.
