David Mueller Back To Work
• A few months ago you couldn’t go a day without hearing the names of Taylor Swift and David Mueller dominating the news. The short version: Mueller lost his morning gig at KYGO/Denver after he was accused of grabbing Taylor’s butt during a meet-and-greet. He denied the accusations and sued her. Taylor counter-sued him and won, collecting $1 in damages. Last summer, Mueller lamented that he couldn’t find a radio gig and said he willing to go anywhere and work for nothing, just to get back on-air. Seizing on the opportunity, Delta Radio Network President/CEO Larry Fuss met with Mueller — found him to be sincere and hired him as morning co-host on Country WMYQ (Kix 92.7)/Greenwood, MS.
Fuss shared some background info, saying, “We talked a lot over a couple of months and I eventually flew to Minneapolis to meet him. When he explained the Taylor Swift incident, he’s either the world’s best liar, or he’s telling the truth. Having heard him tell the story, I’m inclined to believe him and the rest of the staff seems to believe him as well.” Fuss offered Mueller the gig and explained he couldn’t pay him anything close to what he was making in Denver. “I also told him if he just wanted to come and work for six months to a year to get his radio career back on track, I was OK with that. He said, ‘No, I’m coming to stay long-term.'”
Mueller, using the air name “Stonewall Jackson,” made his Greenwood debut Monday morning, teamed up with Jonbob Wise on the new Jackson & Jonbob morning show. Fuss commented, “I was roundly criticized in a Facebook group for offering Mueller a job, but regardless of what he may or may not have done, does he really deserve to be banned from radio for life? He recently lost his sister to cancer and also had to put his 94-year-old mother in a nursing facility, so the man deserves a break. On top of that, he has lots of talent and will sound great on Kix 92.7.”
