Now Entering Indy: Boomer
• Cumulus Media has named Christopher “Boomer” Layfield as the new Operations Manager for its three-station group in Indianapolis and PD of Country WFMS. Boomer arrives in Indianapolis from Charlotte, where he most recently programmed iHeartMedia Top 40 WHQC (Channel 96-1). No stranger to the exotic cuisine of the Midwest, Boomer previously spent eight years with iHeartMedia Top 40 KSLZ (Z107.7)/St. Louis, along with stops in Richmond, San Diego and Nashville.
Tom Stemlar, VP/Market Manager of Cumulus Media Indianapolis, said, “We are so lucky to be able to add a programming star of Boomer’s caliber to help us continue to outgrow a very competitive Indianapolis radio market.”
Boomer commented, “Cumulus has assembled quite a talented team in Indianapolis getting great results with a pair of the market’s iconic radio brands in Classic Hits WJJK and Country WFMS, as well as the exciting new CHR, WYRG (Energy 93.9). For me, it’s a privilege and a thrill to join such a thriving operation in one of America’s great cities and work alongside such passionate people to elevate these brands even higher. I can’t wait to get started!”
He added, “I have to thank Tom Stemlar, VP/Programming Operations Doug Hamand and EVP/Content & Programming Mike McVay for this incredible opportunity.” Boomer succeeds Stephen Giuttari, who left in January.
