Cord Takes Middays @ WMGK/Philly
• Beasley Classic Rock WMGK/Philadelphia keeps it firmly in the family and taps company vet Matt Cord as the station’s new midday host (9am-2pm). He succeeds market legend Debbi Calton, who retired in December after 26 years of service in the WMGK midday shift. Cord revealed the news about his new shift during an on-air crossover conversation with market legend John DeBella this morning.
Cord is a 30-year market pro who won’t have a very long commute to his new gig — he simply crosses the hall, stepping down from mornings on Adult Hits sibling WBEN (95.7 BEN-FM). He previously spent 20 years doing nights and afternoons on Rock sister WMMR. Earlier in his career Cord did afternoons on Philly’s former WPLY (Y100), and he began his journey at WBLI/Long Island in 1988.
“We were so fortunate when Matt became available,” said Bill Weston, PD of WMGK and WMMR. “I think the stars aligned so I could replace one radio legend with another. Matt’s personality, combined with his passion for Classic Rock, love of radio and dedication to our loyal fans, made him the perfect choice to take over middays on the station!” Cord exclaimed, “I’m so thrilled to continue Debbi Calton’s incredible legacy with the WMGK workplace audience. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work side-by-side with Philly radio legend John DeBella and longtime afternoon drive personality Andre Gardner!”
