Jay Rio On The Loose
• Budget cuts inside the Cumulus cluster in Montgomery, AL result in the unscheduled departure of Jay Rio, as his position as PD of heritage Top 40 WHHY (Y102) has been eliminated.
Rio was named to the post in October 2017. Before that he spent 13 years with Radio One — he was afternoons/Imaging Director at Rhythmic WHHH (Hot 96.3)/Indianapolis until Dec. 2014, when he transferred to Houston as PM drive/Imaging Director when the company launched (now former) Classic Hip Hop KROI (Boom 92). Previous stops include WGBT/Greensboro, KBLZ & KAZE/Tyler, TX and KXTJ, KBXX, KMJQ & KHYS/Houston.
RAMP caught up with Rio, who commented, “I was blessed to have the opportunity to lead the WHHY brand in Montgomery and I’d like to thank Cumulus Media, Louie Diaz and Greg Frey for their confidence in my ability. I am forever grateful and look forward to my next chapter in my career.” Rio can now be reached at 317-250-7361 and/or Rioontheradio@gmail.com.
