Franzen New Midday Anchor For ABC News Radio

ABC Audio announced that veteran journalist/reporter Michelle Franzen has been named as the permanent midday news anchor for ABC News Radio, joining Cheri PrestonDaria Albinger and Rich Cantu in the weekday lineup.

The official news was broken by ABC Audio Director of News Programming Scott Goldberg in a staff memo that read, in part, “Michelle is a trusted journalist with top-notch storytelling skills. Just yesterday she, along with a stellar producing team, won a Gracie Award for their heartwarming story on NICU cuddlers, volunteers who spend time swaddling and hugging newborns when parents or nurses aren’t around.”

Goldberg continued, “Michelle began her ABC News career in 2014, reporting for all platforms, and joined our ABC Audio family in 2015 as a correspondent. Since then she’s been instrumental in our coverage of so many major stories, including the 2016 presidential election, the tragic mass shooting in El Paso and the impeachment of President Trump. Prior to ABC Michelle was a national correspondent at NBC News. She started in their New York bureau just three months before 9/11 and covered every angle of the attack and its aftermath. In that horror, Michelle saw what she describes as the ‘best of the human spirit emerge,’ which has become a thread in her reporting.”

In closing, Goldberg said, “During this monumental time, when our talented ABC News Radio team — without missing a beat — has delivered exceptional programming to our affiliates and listeners, I look forward to Michelle taking on this expanded and much deserved role. Please join me in congratulating her.”
