Canada Expecting Heat Wave

• At 12:01am this Friday, May 21, Canada’s Stingray Radio will launch its successful Hot AC music brand “Hot” in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The format and brand will be installed on CHRK (101.9 The Giant)/Sydney, NS, which will rebrand as Hot 101.9, while CKIX/St. Johns, NL will morph from 99.1 Hits FM to Hot 99.1.

Each station’s current on-air lineup remains unchanged, with Mornings with Brad and Keliegh continuing in St. John’s while the Morning Hot Tub with Mauler, Rush and Jenni continues in its second year in Sydney, with Rob McNamara and Tashia Lee rounding out that station’s local lineup.

Both stations will continue to play the hit music their respective communities have come to expect, with an even stronger focus on songs their audience knows and loves. Stingray’s Hot brand has been a success story for years, including a decade-plus run at No. 1 in Ottawa, with four other Hot stations in Alberta, Ontario and Prince Edward Island.

“Bringing Hot to Sydney and St. Johns will help to make these radio stations an even stronger presence in their communities, connecting with their local listeners in a meaningful way,” says Zach Bedford, National Brand and Content Leader for Stingray’s Hot AC and Top 40 stations. “We’ll be providing the same great hit music our listeners expect from us, but with a sound that’s exciting, fun… and Hot.”

After the launch, Hot will be available for live streaming at hot1019.ca and hot991.ca, on the Stingray Music mobile app, and on the Radio Player Canada app.
