Sirott Held Over At WGN Radio

• Nexstar’s WGN Radio/Chicago announced a swell contract extension with morning drive talent Bob Sirott.

In making the official announcement of Sirott’s extension, WGN Radio VP/GM Mary Sandberg Boyle said, “We are delighted to announce that Chicago’s Very Own Bob Sirott and his uniquely entertaining morning show will continue to be heard on Chicago’s Very Own WGN Radio 720. Bob has been an iconic voice in Chicago since 1973 and we’re fortunate to have his voice and talent as we head into our 100th year and beyond.”

Sirott’s acclaimed broadcasting career spans nearly five decades at several notable Chicago radio stations, including WMAQ, WBBM (B96) and WLS, along with a few television stations. He joined WGN Radio as morning drive host in Jan. 2020.

To give some indication of the urgency of getting Sirott’s new deal done before the holidays, Sean Compton, President of Nexstar Media Inc.’s Networks Division didn’t even have time to make it to his desk, choosing instead to utilize the next available hard surface to sign his name to Sirott’s legally binding paperwork.

“The station calls it work. I call it fun,” Sirott said. “It’s a forgotten commodity at most radio and TV stations today. But Sean Compton, a true fan of radio, gets it. And who knows, someday I may turn into a morning person.” Effective Jan. 3, 2022, Sirott’s show, currently heard from 5-9am, will air from 6-10am.
