The Award-Winning Charlie Cook!
• Cumulus Media is proud to announces that Charlie Cook, the company’s VP of Country, was recently honored by the Academy of Country Music (ACM) with the ACM Service Award. Cook was presented with the award by former ACM Award winner Chris Janson during the 16th Annual Academy of Country Music Honors, held on Wednesday, August 23 at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium and nationally televised on FOX on Monday, Sept. 18. The show is now available on demand on Hulu.
In addition to his role as VP of Country for Cumulus Media, Cook also serves as Programming Operations Manager for the five-station Cumulus Nashville group and Program Director of WSM-FM (95.5 Nash Icon) and WKDF (103.3 Country).
Cook began his Country radio career in 1972 at WSDS/Ypsilanti, MI. In the mid-’70s, Cook spent time at KLAK/Denver, and Wheeling’s WWVA and WHN/New York, and was named “DJ of the Year” by Billboard in 1977. In 1980, Cook joined KHJ/Los Angeles and flipped the station to Country. After a stint at KLAC, Cook joined McVay Media in 1983 as SVP of Country Programming, and consulted more than 40 Country stations over the next 12 years. In 1996, Cook joined Cumulus Media’s Westwood One as VP of Programming/Formats, and in 2006 joined Cumulus as VP of Programming for the company’s 67 Country stations.
Cook is the former Chairman, President, and Radio Committee Chair of the Academy of Country Music’s Board of Directors and continues to serve as the longest-serving ACM Board Member in ACM history. He was inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame in 2011. And now you’re up to date.
