Paul Kelly Awarded Mornings At WMGK/Philly

• Beasley Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK/Philadelphia looks inward to secure its new morning host, tapping the station’s “designated hitter” Paul Kelly to step up from weekends/fill-in and into the blinding light of morning drive, starting Monday, Dec. 1. He will succeed Matt Cord, who, as was previously announced, is returning across the hall to sister 93.3 WMMR, assuming command of the midday show that had been occupied by the late Pierre Robert.

“Paul Kelly is the perfect fit to lead mornings at WMGK,” said Paul Blake, VP/Market Manager of Beasley Philadelphia. “He has been a trusted and versatile part of our family for six years, and as a Philadelphia native who grew up listening to this station, he truly understands MGK’s heritage. Paul’s passion for the music and connection with our listeners make him a natural choice for this role.”

WMGK PD Chuck Damico remarked, “Paul’s deep Philadelphia roots, his lifelong love of Classic Rock, and the genuine connection he’s built with our listeners over the years make him the ideal choice for mornings on WMGK. He understands this city, he understands this music, and he brings an energy and authenticity that resonate with our audience every time he cracks the mic. We’re excited to have him leading our morning show and continuing the tradition of great radio on MGK.”

Kelly launched his on-air career in 1989 at WZXL/Atlantic City and went on to work in various roles in Wilkes-Barre-Scranton, PA and Poughkeepsie, NY. In 2001, Kelly was named VP/Operations Manager at Philadelphia-based Kelly Music Research, Inc., and joined WMGK in 2019. He is also a founding member of Kelly Music For Life, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that produces concerts, festivals, and arts events throughout Haverford Township, and operates The Kelly Center in Havertown, PA, supporting music education and community initiatives.

“This has been a dream come true — rocking in the same building I visited on my bike as a kid,” said Kelly. “It’s been amazing working alongside the personalities I grew up listening to — Matt Cord, Tony Harris, John DeBella, Debbi Calton, and André Gardner!”
