McCarroll Stepping Down At Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Records President Dan McCarroll is leaving the company after nearly four years at the helm. McCarroll broke the news Monday afternoon in a staff email, obtained by RAMP, which read, “Dear Friends, Friday will be my last day at WBR. I’m stepping down from my role as President. The last four years here have been amazing for me. It has been my pleasure and honor to work with some of the greatest artists of all time and to collaborate with the many talented people at WBR. I want to thank Cameron, Hildi, Peter, Larry and Emio for everything they do, and for being fantastic partners. Wishing you all the very best, Dan.”

In a follow-up memo, Warner Bros. Chairman & CEO Cameron Strang confirmed McCarroll’s impending departure, writing, “As many of you have heard from him, Dan McCarroll is leaving WBR. I know I speak for us all when I thank him for everything he’s done for our label, our artists, and our team. Dan has been integral in evolving our A&R activity and helping us grow our partnerships with some of the world’s biggest stars, all the while attracting a new generation of talent to the label. Dan has been a fantastic friend and colleague to many of us, and I’m personally grateful to him for all his advice and counsel. Dan’s last day in the office will be this Friday, so please join me in wishing him all the very best in the next chapter of his career.”

McCarroll was named to his current post in December 2013. Before that he served three years as President of the Capitol & Virgin Label Group. His earlier executive experience includes a stint as EVP of North American Creative for EMI Music Publishing. McCarroll has also headed up the A&R department for The Music Company, the Elektra imprint formed by Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and he’s also an accomplished session drummer, having spent several years touring and working with artists like Sheryl Crow, Aimee Mann, Michael Penn and Lloyd Cole.
