Remembering Stu Haskell

Stu Haskell, beloved longtime Market President of iHeartMedia Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming, died Sunday, Oct. 18, the morning after his 71st birthday. We are told that Haskell had been dealing with some health issues of late.

The sad news was passed to us by Stu’s colleague Big Rob, PD/afternoon talent of KSME (96.1 Kiss FM)/Ft. Collins, CO, who said, “We are very, VERY sad. Stu was a big deal in the radio world and the community around here. We’re all heartbroken.”

Haskell comes from a proud family of broadcasters — his father, George Haskell, was one of the founders of KNEB/Scottsbluff, NE, and was inducted into the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 1997. His sister, Julie Gade, was most recently GM of Alpha Media’s Lincoln, NE group until her retirement a year ago.

Big Rob also directed our attention to a wonderful tribute to Haskell, which was written by one of his best friends and closest colleagues Chris Kelly in 2018 on the occasion of Stu being honored with the Rex Howell Broadcaster of the Year Award by the Colorado Broadcasters Association. In closing, Big Rob said, “We will miss Stu every single day and we will never be able to thank him enough for all he has done for us personally, but for all he has done for our community in general. A leader in all aspects of the word.. and an even better person. To this amazing Man, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and hero among men, we all say thank you, Uncle Stu… And we’ll see you on the other side, ‘dammit.'”

In addition to his sister, Julie, Haskell is survived by his wife Cindy, sons Matt and Skylar and many grandchildren. Details about memorial services are pending.
