CMG Connects Police & The People
• Cox Media Group Urban radio brands WCFB (Star 94.5)/Orlando and Hot 99.5 (WOKV-HD2) & Power 106.1 (WJGL-HD2)/Jacksonville will be connecting their local communities with prominent law enforcement individuals to discuss how to bridge the gap between them.
Each year, this nation sees between 50-60 million law enforcement-related interactions between police and citizens, with some encounters leading to unfortunate outcomes. After Tyre Nichols‘ killing by Memphis police sparked protests and debate over police tactics throughout the country, these CMG stations are stepping up by presenting a community forum and dinner called “Police and The People,” which will feature an in-depth panel discussion with prominent law-enforcement individuals and will address various police policies.
The event will also provide information about pedestrian rights and the protocols to follow when being encountered by the police. “Police and The People” will be held in Orlando this Thursday, March 23, and in Jacksonville on Friday, March 31 at 5pm inside each station’s performance studios.
“This initiative is essential for both our law enforcement and our listeners — the goal is to help foster better relationships between the police and the people,” said Elroy Smith, CMG Director of Urban Branding & Programming. “This event will be interactive, insightful, and educational. We want our listeners and law enforcement agents to hear both sides and to walk away with an enhanced understanding that will ultimately lead to a sense of resolution.”
