McIntyre Joins ‘American Idol’

• Manager Phil McIntyre, whose clients include Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas, Iggy Azalea and Joe Jonas/DNCE, is joining ABC’s rebooted American Idol as an Executive Producer, representing CORE Media. McIntyre, who founded Philymack in 2006, leading it to strategic alliances with Roc Nation and Island Records, among others, will work alongside existing EPs Trish Kinane and co-executive producer Megan Wolflick of FremantleMedia and focus on “anything involving music,” he told Variety. “Everything from rollout strategy to song selection to the creative concepts around the contestants — it’s all-encompassing.”

UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer and Global Head of Music David Zedeck urged McIntyre to look at the Idol gig. Hey, and why not — the massive exposure certainly didn’t hurt Jimmy Iovine, Scott Borchetta and Clive Davis when they were involved. “To some degree this is a new frontier for me,” said McIntyre, who said the idea of teaming up with Idol “intrigued” him. No stranger to working on television, McIntyre previously collaborated with Disney, which became the springboard for the Jonas Brothers and Lovato. “I understand the balance between artist development and making good television,” McIntyre said. “I think we have the platform and the heritage brand to be able to do that [with Idol].”

The all-new American Idol, featuring judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, and host Ryan Seacrest, premieres Sunday, March 11 on ABC.
