When Life Hits Too Close To Home

• As a rule we don’t cover a lot of podcast news in RAMP, mostly due to space limitations; however, in this rare case we are honored to make an exception… let us explain: Patty Steele, co-host of Scott Shannon in the Morning with Patty Steele on Audacy Classic Hits WCBS-FM/New York also co-hosts the Gracie Award-winning podcast, The Deep 6. A recent special two-part episode of The Deep 6 generated such significant audience response that WCBS-FM and New York sister stations WNEW (NEW 102.7) and WXBK (94.7 The Block) will air it this Sunday, April 24 at 6am.

In this deeply personal episode, Steele interviews her 26-year-old son Jake about his heroin addiction and his journey to recovery. As a mother of three, Steele reveals her struggle through the ordeal that simultaneously occurred with her breast cancer diagnosis. With five years of sobriety under his belt, Jake and his mom decided it was time to make their story public with the hope of helping others. Steele said, “It’s important that we take the stigma away from addiction issues and talk openly about what is truly affecting our children. I’m so grateful that Jake and I are in such a good place that we’re able to share our journey.”

Audacy SVP of Programming Jim Ryan stated, “I cannot imagine what Patty and her son went through, and believe it’s a story that families need to hear. I’m hoping by airing it on our stations we can spread the word to a greater audience and encourage people to download and listen to the podcast. It’s rare to hear such a raw, emotional story as this.”

Ben Mevorach, Director of News & Programming for 1010 WINS and 1010WINS.com remarked, “Patty’s conversation with her son is heartbreaking, inspiring, life-affirming, and compelling. It’s one of the most important podcasts to come along in a very long time. What makes it so powerful is its authenticity. You can feel the pain and unrelenting love for her son on this very personal journey. Patty is brave beyond words to share and explore all that has happened and because her story could be any parent’s story, every parent will find a part of themselves in it.”

Since the release of this two-part episode, Steele has been inundated with messages of gratitude, hope and encouragement from her millions of radio and podcast listeners.  You are invited to share this journey and listen to this very special podcast here: Part 1 Life in Recovery: Survive then Thrive, Part 2: Life in Recovery: Codependency.
