Get Well, Don Brake!
• We join the rest of the industry in sending our most positive thoughts to Don Brake, OM of Cumulus Savannah and PD of Country WJCL (Kix 96), his wife, America and their daughter, Naomi, after Brake revealed that he is battling a lymphoma in his colon. Brake shared his story in an extensive Facebook post, noting that he has started his first round of chemotherapy.
“Even better, the amazing nurses here at Memorial Health got it approved for Naomi to come see me on Saturday… that’d been the best dose of medicine I have had so far,” Brake said. “A lot has happened since I arrived here in the 10th, but so far, despite a lot of pain and emotions, each day has ended up a good, positive day.” Brake added, “I am by no means out of the woods yet. This fight is just beginning but my great team of doctors are talking about cures and treatments rather than comfort levels and timelines. I am lucky and blessed to be talking about anything at all. So there it is, I have cancer.”
Brake continued, “I have accepted it, and America and I have had all the talks and made all the legal arrangements to deal with the worst. We are now focused on the journey ahead and all the positives. I am going to beat this and she is going to be my rock and Naomi is going to be my reason why. I want to thank you in advance for all the love, support and prayers I know you will be sending. I will need all of that and all the positive energy I can get. It truly means everything to me to know I have great friends like you.”
America’s cousin has established a GoFundMe account to help the Brake family with their mounting medical bills and related expenses.” Brake added, “Also know any money left over once I beat this will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.”
