Remembering ‘The Loverman,’ Jerry Wade

• It is with a heavy heart that the radio family at Radio One’s 106.7 WTLC/Indianapolis confirms the passing of their beloved friend and market legend Jerry Wade, who died at the age of 63. Wade was a 40-year Indianapolis radio veteran, the last three decades with WTLC as host of highly rated The Quiet Storm with The Loverman, Jerry Wade.

Deon Levingston, RVP/GM of Radio One Indianapolis, described Wade as “Not just a valuable member of our staff for over 30 years, but a cherished friend and an integral part of our Radio One family.”

While on the air, Wade was the character known as “Mr. Loverman,” a charismatic, deep-voiced personality who graced the airwaves Sunday through Thursday evenings as host of what he called “the sexiest show in the city.” However, away from his outsized radio persona, Wade was also Executive Director of “Quality of Life,” an Adult Day Center on the east side of Indianapolis. He was also the owner of several salons known as “Hot Cuts,” operated his mobile DJ service, “Jerry Wade Live,” and in his not-so-spare time was also a dating coach.

Karen Vaughn, Operation Manager of WTLC, commented, “This is a complete shock to the Radio One Family. Jerry was a friend, a confidant, a brother, and the ultimate party starter, and we are working together through our grief to pay tribute to one of the biggest stars our station has ever had the honor to feature.”

• WTLC plans to honor the memory of Jerry Wade Tuesday night during what would have been his normal on-air shift — The Quiet Storm, starting at 7pm. Read the complete tribute posted on the WTLC website.
